AOP Apremont "La Pierre Hâchée

Category :

In 1248, a gigantic mudslide swept away a section of Mount Granier, the northeastern limit of the Chartreuse massif. On this occasion, several villages and hundreds of human lives disappeared. The Pierre Hâchée is one of the gigantic debris of the Granier, lying where its course stopped, more than seven hundred years ago. Legend has it that this rock was held back by the hand of the Virgin Mary, preserving the small country chapel where the statue was located. The monks of the priory took refuge in this chapel and were the only ones to survive the catastrophe. At that time, everyone saw it as a sign from heaven and spontaneously a pilgrimage was born in this chapel Notre-dame de Myans.
